Frequently Asked Questions

Call (760) 256-4400 for information, or email us at: stpaulsacademybarstow@gmail.com

Is the school accessible to wheelchairs?

Yes, we have wheelchair access through the rear entrance, and the restroom is wheelchair accessible.

Who runs the school?

We are proud to say that Marcia Zableckis, a well-known and respected educator in Barstow, is the Principal of St. Paul's Academy.

What will the schedule look like?

Each day will start at 8:45am with one of the core classes. Monday and Thursday will be Language Arts and History. Tuesday and Friday will be Science and Mathematics. Lunch will follow these classes. After lunch will be physical education and an elective. School will be over at 2:40. Since Barstow Unified has a short day on Wednesday, we will have a short day then, too. On that day students will be getting an integrated curriculum that will cover all curricular areas. This will be followed with a religion class, lunch and dismissal at 1 pm.

The school will have a flexible schedule. This means that the core subjects will be taught twice a week instead of every day. The students will be getting 90 minutes twice a week for each of these subjects. During this time, the teachers will be able to not only present the information, assign independent work, give enhanced projects, but also give students individualized help when needed.

Why limit the class size to 20 students?

If one of our teachers has students in both 7th and 8th grade, he or she will have a maximum student load of 40 students. A typical teaching load in public junior high schools is over 100 students. We want our teachers to get to know their students, to be able to provide individualized attention, and to ensure that none of our students become lost in the crowd. Excellence in education requires more than just the student's efforts; we need to be able to do our part, as well.

What is expected of the students?

We expect all students to be there to learn. We will have a “no tolerance” policy for those who feel they can do what ever they wish and deprive others of their education. If a student wishes to test that policy, they will not be allowed in classes -- suspension and expulsion are the rewards for disruptive behavior.

What if a student has difficulty with a class?

If there is need for additional tutoring, we will provide that after school at no additional cost.

Please call the school (760-256-4400) if you have additional questions!
