Who We Are

Our mission statement:

We welcome all people to join us as we serve God through prayer, study, fellowship, and the giving of our time, talent, and treasure.

A little bit of the history of St. Paul's, Barstow:

St. Christopher's Chapel Trailer made its first visit to Barstow on March 26, 1941, with Captain Charles L. Conder, of the Church Army, in charge. The Chapel Trailer, which made 17 visits to Barstow and Daggett, was established to bring the church to isolated Episcopalians in out-of-the-way and neglected areas of the diocese.

Monthly services were inaugurated in March 1942, with the third visit of the Chapel Trailer, which made its headquarters on a vacant lot near Buena Vista and 2nd Streets.

A building fund was started on March 19, 1944, and the lot where St. Paul's now stands was donated by Mrs. Ira B. Sweatman. On October 25, 1945, it was agreed to organize a Mission, and on November 18, 1945, it was named St. Paul's.

Early in 1947, ground was broken for the new church and a cross was marked in the earth. However, actual building was delayed until March 1948. On June 10, 1948, the new building was dedicated. The first Holy Communion service was celebrated by the Reverend Charles L. Conder, assisted by the Reverend Merrill Norton. St. Paul's was admitted to the Los Angeles Diocese in January 1949.
